Description

A Tree and Palm contractor’s license allows you to plant, maintain, and remove trees and palms. The duties include pruning, stump grinding, and tree, palm, or limb guying. This regulation does not apply to, and a license shall not be required for, incidental pruning of trees or guying of planted trees and their limbs by a nurseryperson or incidental pruning of trees by a gardener as described in Section 7026.1 of the Code.

How to obtain a

tree and palm

contractors license?

Before you can apply for your tree and palm contractors license, you must meet the following experience requirements:

  • 4 years of experience performing/supervising tree and palm work.
  • Social Security number or ITIN
  • Be at least 18 years old*

Don’t have 4 years of tree and palm experience?
A college degree can be substituted for up to three years of that experience.

The State will accept self-employed experience.

In order to obtain your tree and palm contractors license, you are required to pass the Trade examination as well as the Law & Business exam.

*Even though you can apply for a tree and palm contractors license when you are 18 years old, it is recommended that you be at least 23 years old due to experience requirement.
