With a communication & low voltage contractors license you will be allowed to install, service or maintain all types of communication & low voltage systems which are energy limited to 91 volts. These systems include, but are not limited to telephone systems, sound systems, cable television systems, closed-circuit video systems, satellite dish antennas, instrumentation and temperature controls, and low voltage landscape lighting. Low voltage fire alarm systems are specifically not included in this section.
How to obtain a
low voltage
contractors license?
Before you can apply for your low voltage contractors license, you must meet the following experience requirements:
4 years of experience performing/supervising low voltage (C-7) work.
Social Security number or ITIN
Be at least 18 years old*
Don’t have 4 years of low voltage experience? A college degree can be substituted for up to three years of that experience.
The State will accept self-employed experience.
In order to obtain your low voltage contractors license, you are required to pass the Trade examination as well as the Law & Business exam.
*Even though you can apply for a low voltage contractors license when you are 18 years old, it is recommended that you be at least 23 years old due to experience requirement.
